It’s about time that Catholic Exchange posted an article on blogging. This is especially true since their senior content editor is none other than master blogsman Mark Shea.

You may remember this post where I ranted about how the only “Catholic” link the Democrats had on their site for some time was “Catholics” for a Free Choice.
Look at the site now, and you’ll see that they’ve revised their links a bit. Now, instead of Catholic links, they have “Religious Affiliated” links. Of course, “Catholics” for a Free Choice can be found there, along with Call to Action and America Magazine. To be fair, they also link to Catholic USA, which isn’t a bad site. However, upon closer observation, you will find that the link to “Catholics” for a Free Choice appears not just once in the site, but THREE TIMES!! It appears also under “Pro-Choice” and “Women.”
I find this just as repugnant as it was before. The Devil is still hard at his endless tricks.

Am I just a crank, or do some “religious leaders” have too much time on their hands?
I remember reading an article some time ago about a theologian who attacked the hamburger. Sorry, I don’t remember details.
Is it just me, or do some people have their priorities a little mixed?

Tom Abbott posted on his Goodform blog his complaints about sitcoms. Perhaps it is living proof that in Jesus Christ is our only hope. Some of them might be good if it weren’t for the trash.
Maybe I’m going off on a tangent, but I can’t help to think of movies and shows that I watched that I might have enjoyed except for the fact that people got killed or that the “f” word was used with a fair degree of frequency. Take a movie like Office Space. I watched it a couple of weeks ago. Given that I work in a cubicle environment, the office antics are hilarious. The movie could have been great, but it was filled with gangster rap and morally repulsive sexual references.
Why can’t someone make a good movie without the trash these days? I find it very disturbing. I just can’t stand it, and my grandmother told me that the inability to tolerate such garbage runs in my family.

Speaking of Popcak and the HMS blog, I noticed that Amy Welborn is getting excited about a new Chick-fil-A. Yes, not only does Chick-fil-A have a much better atmosphere, and not only do I respect them for being closed Sundays (more people should do this), but they also have better food than other fast food places. I eat their chicken biscuits for breakfast because they are so much better than other fast food places. I don’t feel like I’m getting a little food in my grease.

The reason is simple. Just follow this link. In fact, I have one up on Popcak. Not only am I not attached to Blogger, my blog loads fast as well. I’m not bound to that ASP database that his blog runs on. Ha . . . . ha . . . . ha If I can get my church group to start a blog, we’ll use this same software.
So it goes to show you that the Popcak plot won’t stop me.

I just saw this on a bumper sticker as I was headed down the road:
Please do not lie, cheat, or steal. The government does not like competition.
Sad. Very sad.

As this article states, the bishops of our country are far from rebuilding trust in them. Of course, it will take time. However, some real displays of contrition and penitence wouldn’t hurt.
However, I do think that they are between a rock and a hard place in one aspect. Many (though not all, probably not even most) of the same people who expect them to crack down on abusers expect them to loosen up the Church’s teaching on sexual morality. One would think that sooner or later they might see the link.
Take a look at the irony in this article by the Detroit Free Press. It mentions both the plenary concil proposal and the plight of homosexual activists in the Church and seems sympathetic to those calling for more “compassion” for homosexuals. Well, nevermind that the recent scandals are largely a problem with active homosexuality.

A conversation I had last week brings to mind a problem with many Americans when it comes to faith. The problem manitfests itself in various forms, like the following:
I used to be [insert religion here], but I didn’t agree with them.
I am looking for a church that teaches what I believe.
You need to decide what you believe.
We live in a marketplace society, and we treat our faith the same way. We are looking for what we want rather than what God wants. Rather than trying to find out who God is, we want someone to tell us what we’ve already decided we will believe. In doing this, we become designers of our own personal God.
However, a God who is the product of our own “values clarification” cannot be the God who created us. Such a God must be greater than we are. We owe it to him to learn who he is and what he wants. This should be handled with prayer. We should be forever asking God to allow us to know him. If you sincerely seek the truth, you will find it.
