We are fortunate in my parish to have our diocese’s most recently-ordained priest serving in our parish. We need to fill our churches with people just like him. Today, he told us the following “shocking” facts in his homily.
- There is a lot of confusion in our world today.
- Truth is not whatever feels good, is convenient, or makes things “go my way.” One cannot pursue these things as truth on the grounds that one is following one’s conscience.
- We have a duty to learn not only what the Church teaches, but why. The teaching of the Church is not arbitrary.
- Abortion and gay “marriage” are always wrong.
There was probably more to this, but this is all I can remember for now. I appreciate a priest willing to tell the truth, which, in this case, consisted of reminding us that there is a such thing as truth.
UPDATE: The good priest also explained that, while such issues as the death penalty and the war complicate things, there is a hierarchy of truths.
