Musical Mass Gripes

  /   Sunday, February 06, 2005   /   Comments(0)

Today we had our annual Scout Mass at my parish. It’s a bit crowded, but it is only once a year. It came complete with chilren’s choir.

Well, the children were great, but every single song they had to sing was one of those self-congratulatory songs that I refuse to sing when they come up. Here is what we had to sing:

Gather Us In
We Are the Light of the World
One Bread, One Body
They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love

What does this say to the children who could be using this experience to praise God?

The Children Came to Him

  /   Sunday, January 30, 2005   /   Comments(0)

This morning at Mass, a family with about six children (not sure I saw them all) sat next to me. I don’t think I can recall sitting next to better behaved children. I noticed something as soon as we started to sing the Gloria. The children were singing it loudly and clearly. I heard their responses at Mass. They were very reverent. I was impressed.

Too many times, I see children who should be old enough to know better climbing on the pews, chewing gum, picking at each other, and talking. It makes it hard to pray when they are near me. Granted, the real problem is usually their parents who have little respect for the Church. However, it is a real problem in my parish.

Hearing these children this morning made me more mindful. I found myself more eager to participate when I heard them. A world of good could be done by having this kind of children all over the church.

Please Read the Gospel of John

  /   Saturday, January 29, 2005   /   Comments(0)

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry when I read this. It appears that Bishop Hurley decided to do his job of protecting the Church. Our dissident friend who was banned from speaking said that these are the kind of things that “make the Church look foolish in the eyes of the world.” Uh, hello, read the Gospel of John. Jesus told us that we would look foolish in the eyes of the world.

By the way, don’t you just love Jeff Miller’s graphic?

Disturbing News About Pro-Aborts

  /   Saturday, January 29, 2005   /   Comments(0)

A friend of mine called yesterday and told me about an ultra-feminist listserv he subscribed to. It was rather sickening. He got a survey about ways that he would be interested in helping them. One of the ways was to stage “fake protests.” He wondered if some of these people could be staging phoney pro-life protests to make pro-lifers look like idiots. If so, this would be one more reason to believe that the pro-aborts are doing the work of the Devil. Does anyone know anything about this?

Not Much Fun

  /   Saturday, January 29, 2005   /   Comments(0)

If you have been by to visit, you probably noticed that this site wasn’t exactly accessible. In fact, it was showing a Cold Fusion error. I tried to move to a Cold Fusion host so that I could administer it better, but the site blew up, and no one could fix it. I had to move again. Now, I think I have something that will work. In the near future, I’m going to try to fix the ASP scripts so that if you’ve linked to them, you will be redirected to the appropriate Cold Fusion scripts.

I hope that no one thinks that I died or left the blogosphere. I’m very much here and alive.

Fixing the RSS Feed

  /   Sunday, January 23, 2005   /   Comments(0)

If you have been trying to use my RSS Feed to see when I updated this blog, you may have noticed that it makes things appear as though I haven’t updated the blog in eons. Granted, I haven’t been good about blogging lately, but I’m better than that thing suggests. I’m on a new server and back to my original admin application that I created, so I’m hoping that now it will work.

Bible Timeline Seminar

  /   Thursday, January 20, 2005   /   Comments(0)

Now that Perpetual Adoration is underway, my parish has undertaken a Bible Timeline Seminar, hosted by Jeff Cavins. This is an overall Bible study that covers the narrative of salvation history. Cavins discusses it in this interview. The first session went really well. The Frassati Society has its own table, and I have been appointed the leader for my table. They had better be prepared next week. Then again, I haven’t done the reading just yet.

Don’t Curse the Rep While on Hold

  /   Saturday, January 15, 2005   /   Comments(0)

One of my least favorite things to do in life is to call customer service lines. They make me hold forever, and often the rep doesn’t know what in Gehenna he/she is doing. Well, I guess after reading this, I have to watch my language even while on hold.
